Why Isn’t My Email Marketing Working?

Email marketing is the lifeblood of many small businesses, especially in a time when few customers are visiting physical locations for sales or services. As a business owner, it’s frustrating when your emails aren’t leading to conversions (or even being opened). Fortunately, this is a fixable problem – read our tips below to improve your open rates and clicks.

1. Work on your curb appeal.

If you’re like most people, your inbox is always overflowing these days. Often, email marketing messages are the most likely to fall by the wayside and never be opened. Give yourself a boost by making sure your emails are eye-catching in an inbox. Emails with personalized subject lines are 26% more likely to be opened. Also, don’t forget the preview line – if this is blank or unappealing, it can drive customers away.

2. Make it snappy.

If your email is too long, your customers will click in and then immediately click out. Keep it brief, include photos or videos, and make sure your value proposition is above the fold. If you have a great discount or a new product, don’t bury it at the bottom.

3. Keep in touch, but don’t be clingy.

Your customers should hear from you often enough to remember you’re around. You don’t want them going to someone else for a product or service you offer. However, you don’t want to bother customers with emails that are too frequent. If you fill up their inbox too often, they’ll rush to hit the unsubscribe button. A good rule of thumb for a small business is to employ email marketing between once a week and once a month.

If your marketing emails aren’t producing the results you want, try implementing these tips and give it a little time. If you want further tips or recommendations on email-building services, contact us today.
